DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone, is a hormone produced naturally by our bodies, primarily by the adrenal glands. It serves as a building block for other hormones, including testosterone and oestrogen.
DHEA is involved in many bodily processes and has been associated with several potential benefits. It plays a role in maintaining overall hormonal balance, supporting immune function, and promoting healthy brain function. Some studies suggest that DHEA supplements may have positive effects on mood, energy levels, and even cognitive performance.
DHEA is often associated with its potential influence on the ageing process. As we age, our natural DHEA levels tend to decline. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 10 months of DHEA supplementation in elderly individuals resulted in increased strength and lean muscle mass from resistance exercise. In a randomised, double-blind, controlled trial, one year of DHEA supplementation helped increase bone mineral density in the hips of older adults and spinal bone mineral density in older women.
DHEA: usage & safety precautions
In order to develop a personalised, effective DHEA regimen, regular testing of blood levels is highly recommended to determine the proper and accurate dosage. Because of the overwhelming evidence connecting youthful levels of DHEA with healthy longevity, Life Extension suggests that most people over age 40 begin DHEA supplementation.
Suggested use
Read the entire label and follow the directions carefully prior to use.
The exact number of capsules to be taken should be determined by blood testing and the advice of a physician. Generally, take one (1) to three (3) capsules in the morning only. DHEA serum blood tests are suggested 3 to 6 weeks after initiating DHEA replacement therapy to optimise individual dosing.

This is a well-made supplement, and I’ve felt a slight improvement in focus. That said, I recommend people get their DHEA levels tested first. It’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.
